Roughrider Days Rodeo Description

Roughrider Days it's a Rodeo & so much more!

Roughrider Days Rodeo has been a tradition for over 50 years in Dickinson, ND. Each rodeo performance features: Bareback Riding, Steer Wrestling, Saddle Bronc, Team Roping, Tie-Down Roping, Barrel Racing, Breakaway Roping and the fan favorite .... BULL RIDING!

Our stock contractor of nearly 40 years, Korkow Rodeos, LLC, is a third-generation rodeo producer and stock contractor that has been producing rodeos for 75 years. Rodeo isn’t just a way to make a living, it is a way of life for the Korkow family. Erv Korkow produced his first rodeo in 1947 in his hometown of Blunt, South Dakota. Jim bought the ranch and rodeo company when his father, Erv, passed away in 1993. Jim’s wife, Carol, and their son, TJ, play important roles in keeping all this running smoothly. Carol frequently is one of the rodeo timers and handles all the books and records for all operations at home. TJ is their head flank man and is quite knowledgeable about all the rodeo stock and their individual bucking styles. Over 90% of Korkow bucking stock is raised at their 20,000-acre ranch, the Anchor K, nestled in the rolling hills of the Missouri River. Their stock is branded on the left hip with the Anchor K. Jim Korkow likes to say, “It’s the brand that bucks!”.

The Korkow family’s “A-Team” stock has been selected by the top cowboys to buck at every National Finals Rodeo since the rodeo’s inception in 1950 – a claim only two other stock contractors can make. In addition to the NFR, Korkow’s also have stock nominated annually by the cowboys to perform at the Badlands Circuit Finals Rodeo and the Dodge National Circuit Finals Rodeo.

Korkow Rodeos LLC is no stranger to lifetime honors. Erv’s many honors include induction into the South Dakota Hall of Fame, the Casey Tibb’s Hall, the Fairman’s Hall of Fame and he and his wife, LaFola, were both recipients of the Heartland Saddle Award. 2009 marked Erv’s induction into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame in Colorado Springs. In 1996, Jim was selected as the “Stock Contractor of the Year” for the WPRA, and in 2000, he was one of five nominees selected for “Stock Contractor of the Year” for the PRCA. Jim was inducted into the South Dakota Fairman’s Hall of Fame in 2005. An honor his father, Erv, received just 20 years earlier, in 1985. In 2006, the Korkow family was honored by the WPRA with the “Lifetime Family Heritage of the Year” award, especially in honor of LaFola Korkow, a former “Member of the Year” of the WPRA.

Rodeo Announcer

We are pleased to announce our PRCA Rodeo announcer for 2024 is Kade Rogge. Kade started off his rodeo career at a young age being competitive in local team roping jackpots and rodeos at the age of seven. His love for rodeo turned into a very successful high school rodeo career which gave him numerous college scholarship offers. His freshman year he rodeoed at the University of Montana Western. His sophomore year he decided to transfer to be closer to home to the College of Southern Idaho where he made the CNFR as the Rocky Mountain Team Roping Champion.

During his years at CSI, his love for the production side of rodeo developed as his coach threw him under fire to announce their annual rodeo school. He hasn't looked back since. Kade honed his skills at the Cody Night Rodeo for two seasons shortly after college as their lead announcer. This gave him the confidence to buy his PRCA card and now he is entering the 2021 season as an eight-year pro.

With his love for travel, he has entertained crowds literally coast to coast. From the Ellensburg Cinch Shootout to the long-standing traditions in Cowtown, New Jersey. He was featured as lead announcer for the BFO at the Texas Motor Speedway in 2019. Rogge's voice has also been featured on Wrangler Network, Cowboy Channel, and Cinch TV. When Kade is not on the road he enjoys his other occupations, which are livestock auctioneering and cattle ranching. This allows Rogge to be with his wife Jasmyn, daughter Rory, and son Rix on their modest cattle ranch in Idaho.

Rodeo Pickup Men - The Unsung Heroes of the Rodeo

The next time you go to the rodeo, look for the two cowboys on horseback inside the arena waiting for the action to happen.

They're known as Pickup Men…Heroes on Horseback.

Pickup men are a cowboys’ best friend, waiting in the background to perform with athleticism and grace. The pickup man is the last safety valve for rodeo cowboys. He may be the last level of well-being between a cowboy hung up on a bareback rigging and a consultation with an orthopedist.

His job ranges from rescuing a cowboy from a runaway bronc to making sure the animal exits without injury to being ready, in mind and heart and soul, to rope a bucking horse if a cowboy snags a hand after an 8-second ride.

They are also known as ghosts of the rodeo arena. Good pickup men are almost invisible. They glide in and rescue roughstock riders from twisting fury on the hoof, usher bulls and broncs to the exit and vanish into the background. They are rodeo pickup men.

As soon as the saddle bronc or bareback rider hits that 8-second mark, they move in. It is also one of the most important things in rodeo. They make sure the cowboy gets put down on the ground safely and make sure the bucking horse gets out of the arena safely.

No pickup man does it alone, it takes a finely tuned team. At most rodeos, two pickup men work together.
