My husband competed in the tie down roping. Our parents came to support him. It was $48 to get 2 senior people in and despite arriving an hour early there was no place to sit. Drinks and food were outrageously priced ($5 for water). We even had to fight for a place to stand that we could watch the rodeo because even the standing crowd was 3 rows deep along the fence. Security was very ignorant about approaching and telling people to get away from the fence. There was absolutely no room to watch the rodeo. If you just want to drink and don’t care about the rodeo you better bring plenty of money. The guy next to us said it cost him $80 for 3 buckets of beer. They grossly oversold the tickets to this rodeo. Then saddle bronc kicked off and I’ve never seen so many horses go down. A little over half way through one went down and was unable to get back up. The main concern seemed to be hiding the trauma from the crowd instead of efficiently caring for the horse. They quickly pulled a truck in to block the view. Instead of sedating the horse or euthanizing it they struggled for at least close to a half hour to get it out of sight. Accidents happen sadly and it’s an ugly thing but first and foremost they should have cared for the horse instead of the priority being to hide it all from the crowd. They tied its legs and rolled it onto a panel and of course the horse continued to struggle. I’ve seen these types of accidents happen too many times before but I haven’t seen anyone make such a priority if hiding things from the crowd over taking care of the animal. The whole experience was beyond frustrating and disappointing.
