Louisiana Rodeos

Mari Gras isn’t the only excitement to be found in Louisiana. It’s also a great place to see rodeos. The mixture of different cultures in Louisiana makes for some unique and fun rodeos. From early spring to late fall, there are plenty of professional and local rodeos for you to plan into your schedule.

Cajun Rodeo Association (CRA)

The Cajun Rodeo Association is a non-profit organization in Louisiana. They promote professional rodeos in the Southern Louisiana region. If you’re visiting Louisiana this year, make sure to take a look at the CRA Rodeo Schedule. You’ll be able to find a number of events to attend or compete in.

The earliest rodeo you’ll be able to attend is the Annual Mid Winter Rodeo. Produced by R&B Rodeo and hosted by the South Louisiana Mid-Winter Fair Association, the Annual Mid Winter Rodeo goes on for one weekend in early January or February.

In March, you can go to the Evangeline Parish CRA Rodeo. This event is also produced by R&B Rodeo Company in Ville Platte, LA.

If you miss either of these rodeos early in the year, don’t worry. There are plenty more CRA rodeos to enjoy in the spring and summer.

April brings two rodeos to Louisiana. The first of these is the Cowboys Spring Stampede Rodeo put on by GT Bar Cattle. Later in April is the Assumption High FFA Rodeo in Napoleonville, LA.

In May and June, the CRA sanctions the GSYR, the Washington Parish Balloon Festival, and the Morgan City Rodeo.

In September you can catch the Jennings or Amite rodeo events. In October you can go to the Livingston Parish Fair & Rodeo or the Cowboys Fall Rodeo.

You can even catch a show as late in the year as November in Raceland, LA. Then, be sure to finish off the season with the CRA Finals Rodeo.

Angola Prison Rodeo

Every year, the Angola Prison puts on an exciting rodeo that you won’t want to miss. This is the longest running prison rodeo, and could be the most unique rodeo you’ll ever attend.

Convicts, prison employees, and civilians can all compete and participate in fun and exciting events. It’s a great way for offenders to feel like part of the community and show off some of their talents.

At the Angola Prison Rodeo, you can enjoy classic rodeo activities such as bull riding, bronco riding, barrel racing and steer wrestling. However, the Angola Prison also puts on some unique activities that you won’t see anywhere else. These include convict poker, prisoner pinball, and the Guts and Glory Run.

This rodeo runs every year on the third Saturday and Sunday of April, as well as every Sunday in October.

The proceeds cover rodeo expenses, and also go toward the Louisiana State Penitentiary Inmate Welfare Fund.

Enjoy a day of fun, exciting entertainment while supporting the community and its unique culture.

Louisiana Rodeo Cowboys Association (LRCA)

This rodeo association partners with the State Fair of Louisiana for the LRCA Finals Rodeo. If you’re planning to go to the fair this November, make sure you also get tickets to the rodeo.

The LRCA also sanctions the annual MT Olive Christian School Rodeo. This rodeo is put on in partnership with the Arkansas Rodeo Association (ARA) and the United Professional Rodeo Association (UPRA). The MT Olive Christian School Rodeo goes on every summer at the Gantt Arena. It’s been running for over 40 years.

Springhill PRCA Championship Rodeo

For only a few nights in September, the PRCA hosts the Springhill Rodeo. This professionally run rodeo is the oldest continuously-running rodeo in Louisiana. They’ve been around long enough to know how to put on a good show, so this is one event you won’t want to miss this fall.

Not only is there lots of great entertainment, there’s also food and fun for everyone. Whether it’s Team Roping, Barrel Racing, Mutton Busting, Parades, or the nightly rodeo performance, there’s something there for everyone.

Friends of St. Frances Cabrini Benefit

If you’re looking for a night of great fun for a great cause, then this is the rodeo to attend. It’s held in November at the Coushatta Pavilion in Kinder, Louisiana. The proceeds go towards the St. Frances Cabrini Cancer Center.
